Hödi Kombizug – The Reasonable Alternative
As a matter of course, international and national transport constitutes an important division for the company Hödlmayr International, but it is increasingly not handled any more only by road haulage.

In order to maintain delivery quality and safe attendance to the markets in a changed corporate environment as well, we constantly analyse alternative transport concepts in the long-term interest of our partners, such as an increased utilisation of rail transport.

Since September 2007, the “Hödlmayr multimodal train” – a combination of double-decker and flat cars – has shifted the transport of a larger part of the new vehicles that were transported by truck up to then to rail transport.

Principle: Multimodal traffic by means of bundling via hubs. Pick-up/Distribution are realised by truck, long-distance haul by rail. As reliability and regularity are a prerequisite for the exact integration of an alternative concept in the logistic planning chain, the frequency of the Hödlmayr multimodal train was set to twice per direction and per week.

Facts since 2007:

- over 160 complete trains handled
- 6,500 new vehicles transported
- 2,000 truck rides less
- 1,515 tons of CO2 saved

In 2008, the Hödi Kombizug applied for the Marco Polo 2008 Call for Proposals and has been successfully evaluated and granted.
